Notice of Enrollment for Cross-cultural Competence Training Camp Activities

Cross-cultural competence refers to the comprehensive ability of individuals to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds, that is, the ability to deal with cultural differences, contradictions and conflicts encountered in the process. Under the trend of globalization, in addition to possessing excellent professional technical skills, international talents must have the ability to work and live in an efficient cross-cultural context, which is also the main criterion for distinguishing regional talents from international talents. In order to broaden students' international horizons and enhance their cross-cultural competence, so that they can walk freely in the cross-cultural team, the MEM Education Center of Tsinghua University plans to organize a cross-cultural competency training camp from May 2019. The form and content of the activity are as follows:

I. Cross-cultural Cognitive Ability Training Activities:

Since May 2019, MEM center will launch monthly cross-cultural cognitive training activities aimed at enriching cross-cultural knowledge, enhancing cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding. In May and June 2019, the theme of the event is: Comparison of Chinese and foreign festival cultures: Experiencing Chinese and foreign festival activity I.

II. Intercultural Communication Competence Training Activities:

From May 10, MEM Center will hold cross-cultural communication competence training activities aimed at improving oral English and cross-cultural communication skills. We will select practical problems that may be encountered in cross-cultural communication as the topic of discussion. International students from 13 countries will discuss these topics with you in English and practice oral English face-to-face with you.

The topics for May 10, 24, June 1(or May 31) are tentatively as follows:

1. Cross-cultural competence training camp, session 1: May 10, 2019

Topic: 【Introduction of three festival from China and Foreign countries: Spring festival, Christmas and Eid】

2. Cross-cultural competence training camp, session 2: May 24, 2019

Topic: 【Comparison between Qixi and Valentine’s day, Qingming and Halloween】

3. Cross-cultural competence training camp, session 3: June 1(or May 31), 2019

Topic: 【Introduction and tasting of Chinese and foreign food and drinks: Chinese wine, Chinese tea, Chinese rice pudding, red wine, Pakistani tea, Thailand’s tea, South American coffee, Ethiopian coffee, Indonesian coffee】

In the future, MEM Center will continue to organize a series of cross-cultural competency training activities with the theme of Career, food, sports, public welfare activities, reading and religion. Please stay tuned!
