On September 4th, the opening ceremony for International Master of Engineering Management (IMEM) program of Tsinghua University was held in the third Meeting Room of Jiasuo. Fifteen freshmen students of 2018 IMEM from 10 countries including France, Portugal, Romania, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran, Thailand, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Venezuela will officially start a two-year study tour in Tsinghua. Representatives from the International Engineering Education Center (ICEE), Tsinghua University Graduate School, Industrial Engineering Department, Tongji University School of Civil Engineering, Pakistan National University of Science and Technology, Air University, COMSATS University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology participated in the event of the opening ceremony.
Professor Zhang Wei, Associate dean of Graduate School of Tsinghua University, IMEM project director and Department of Industrial Engineering, expressed warm welcome to 15 new students on behalf of the MEM Education Center of Tsinghua University. He reviewed the original intention and history of the IMEM program and wished the students a success in a very diverse environment.

Professor Wang Sunyu, Executive Secretary of UNESCO International Education Center (ICEE), delivered a speech. He said that the international cooperation of engineering education is a world trend. The International Engineering Education Center will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with other countries hoping that the new students of IMEM will grow up in Tsinghua as outstanding students with innovative thinking and innovative ability.

Professor Wang Kaibo, vice director of the Department of Industrial Engineering in his speech, recalled his experience of studying abroad, hoping that students would experience the profound Chinese culture outside of their studies and make their study journey more colorful.

Dr. Malik, the international director of COMSATS University in Pakistan, and Dr. Nguyen, dean of theHanoi University of Science and Technology, said in the speech that they are very happy to see students from so many countries become members of Tsinghua University. Everyone will have the opportunity to communicate with outstanding universities in more countries on the platform of Tsinghua University IMEM.

Professor Jiang Huanjun, vice dean of Tongji University's School of Civil Engineering, welcomed the IMEM students of Tsinghua University would travel to Tongji University in the future, enter more Chinese iconic manufacturing enterprises while experiencing the charm of different cities in China. He also hoped that students would grow up to be excellent students with international vision.

Finally, IMEM class 2018 freshmen Nasulea, Mihai Bogdan, student from Romania, spoke on behalf of all freshmen. He reviewed his original intention to choose China and Tsinghua University, and looked forward to two years of study and life at Tsinghua University, hoping that he can become a good engineering management talent.

Participants also included: Professor Li Zhizhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University, Yuan Yuan, Director of International Exchange Office, Graduate School of Tongji University, Fang Cheng, Assistant Dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, and six other deans and directors from four universities in Pakistan and Vietnam.

IMEM Introduction
IMEM is a 2-year professional degree program. It was based on many years of success of the domestic MEM education program, which trained Chinese engineering management talents. IMEM is tailored to meet the talents demands of global engineering projects in the globalization context. IMEM prepares engineers and technical specialists for the technology leadership or industry management in global engineering projects. Through a multidisciplinary education integrating engineering, management, business, IT with on-site practice, internship and monographic study, IMEM expands students’ vision and provides them with opportunities to build and expand their managerial skills and integrate their business and technical knowledge in an environment of global awareness.
